Regulatory Challenges for Resiliency of Buildings
Presented by Richard Choy
Monday 29th September

“Building resilience: The ability of a building and its component parts to withstand current and future climatic conditions (including wildfires/bushfires, extreme wind, extreme precipitation and extreme temperature), to minimize the loss of functionality and recovery while sustaining damage proportionate to the intensity of the events experienced, and preserving the intended level of performance at the time of construction over the proposed design life of the building.”
— The Global Resiliency Dialogue, 2022
How can regulation keep pace with the urgent need for resilient design? This presentation by Richard Choi will explore the challenges of implementing appropriate building regulations in response to climate extremes, and invite discussion on the role of architects in shaping a way forward.
Key themes:
- The limits and opportunities of current building codes
- Embedding resilience into regulation and practice
- The architect’s role in influencing policy and advocacy
We look forward to seeing you at the Roseville golf club or online for what will be an evening of reflection and insights.
