CPD Hours for Architects

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) plays an important role in maintaining professional standards within the architectural profession.

SPUN Architects’ Network provides architects across NSW with access to regular networking and educational events that contribute towards annual CPD requirements set by the NSW Architects Registration Board.

Our monthly events are designed to help architects remain informed, professionally connected and up to date with the evolving demands of architectural practice, while also working towards the CPD obligations required to maintain registration.

What are CPD hours or CPD points?

CPD hours, sometimes referred to as CPD points, are used to measure participation in approved professional development activities.

Architects accumulate CPD hours by attending educational activities such as:

  • Industry seminars and presentations
  • Professional networking events
  • Technical training sessions
  • Workshops and conferences
  • Online learning and webinars
  • Structured educational programs

SPUN Architects’ Network provides formal CPD opportunities throughout the year through monthly presentations delivered by respected industry professionals and technical experts.

Architects who regularly attend SPUN events can accumulate up to 20 hours of CPD annually.

Formal and informal CPD

CPD activities are generally divided into two categories: formal CPD and informal CPD.

Formal CPD : Formal CPD typically involves structured educational activities with defined learning outcomes and documented participation. Examples include seminars, workshops, presentations, accredited courses and technical learning sessions.

All SPUN monthly presentations qualify as formal CPD activities.

Informal CPD: Informal CPD includes self-directed learning activities such as reading industry publications, research, mentoring, discussions with peers and independent study.

Both formal and informal learning contribute to maintaining professional competency and supporting ongoing development within architectural practice.

Small and medium practices

Large architectural firms often have access to dedicated internal CPD programs, training departments and corporate educational resources.

Small and medium architectural practices, sole practitioners and independent architects may not have access to the same level of in-house professional development support.

SPUN Architects’ Network helps bridge this gap by providing accessible monthly CPD opportunities that are practical, affordable and relevant to everyday architectural practice.

Our network creates an environment where architects can continue building professional knowledge while also strengthening industry relationships and sharing practical experiences with peers.

Newly registered architects

Continuing professional development is especially important for newly registered architects transitioning into independent professional practice.

SPUN provides opportunities for emerging architects to remain engaged with industry discussions, develop professional networks and continue building knowledge across a broad range of practical and regulatory topics affecting the profession.

The network also encourages collaboration and knowledge sharing between experienced practitioners and newer members of the profession.

Membership Benefits

SPUN Architects’ Network offers members much more than CPD points.

While CPD compliance is important, SPUN Architects’ Network is about more than simply accumulating points.

Our events create opportunities for architects to:

  • Stay informed about industry changes
  • Strengthen professional connections
  • Share practical knowledge and experiences
  • Discuss challenges affecting the profession
  • Support better outcomes for architectural practice
  • Contribute to the future direction of the industry

SPUN is open to architects from all practice sizes and experience levels who value professional growth, collaboration and ongoing learning within the architectural profession.

Membership is FREE.
